Set on the owners' non-working farm in the pretty village of Horbling, this spacious detached farmhouse and barn conversion are situated in the heart of the Fens, making an ideal touring base for visiting the area's wealth of historic attractions. Abbotts' Farm (Ref RI2) has been refurbished to provide comfortable family accommodation while sympathetically retaining many of its original features, including exposed woodwork, an ornate cornice in the dining room and a traditional farmhouse-style kitchen furnished with period furniture. There is a second sitting room, a well-stocked library and huge video and DVD collection (including latest releases), providing plenty of entertainment for everyone. Outside is a front patio with dining furniture and barbecue, and a large, private, rear lawned garden with apple, pear and plum trees, as well as gooseberries which guests are welcome to pick in season. The flat fenlands make ideal walking and cycling country, an excellent way to view the landscape with its rich farmlands, huge skies and wonderful sunsets; lovely walks can be enjoyed from the doorstep, while those with a passion for golf, fishing or horse riding will find ample facilities nearby. Within easy driving distance a wealth of interesting places can be discovered, including the delightful old towns of Uppingham, Oakham and Stamford, full of beautiful mellow stone buildings. On the edge of Stamford stands Burleigh House, one of England's greatest Elizabethan houses. Nearby Spalding is an attractive, Dutch-influenced town and centre of the flower-bulb industry, where the Springfields show gardens and the annual flower festival in May are popular attractions. Other places well worth a visit are the splendid medieval Tattershall Castle (NT), Belton House and Coningsby, noted for its huge one-handed church clock, and also the home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. One of the landmarks of the Fens is the magnificent octagonal lantern tower of St Botolph's Church in Boston, which greets visitors from miles around. Good pub ½ mile in Billingborough, or 300 yards in village.

Weekly bookings and limitations for booking short stays:

 

Bookings may be made for a duration of 2, 3, 4, 7, or 14 days (some cottage owners may choose not to offer the full range). Stays for 2, 3, and 4 nights are regarded as short stays. Stays of up to one month may be available for some cottages please phone cottages4you direct for more information.
Most weekly bookings run from Saturday to Saturday, unless the property indicates otherwise. Where accepted, 2 night breaks start on a Friday or Saturday, 3 night breaks on a Friday and 4 night midweek breaks start on a Monday.

Bookings for short stays that fall during a public holiday may only be made within 28 days of the public holiday. Bookings for 7 or 14 days where the stay dates include a public holiday may be made at any time. Click here for a list of public holiday dates in England, Wales and Northern Island.  



Also:

Short break bookings for peak times of Cottage occupancy cannot be made until 28 days prior to the Start Date of your stay. June, July, August, and early September are classed as peak times. The schools go back at different times depending on the area. That is why its such a long peak time.
